Greetings!

My name is Arun.

I did my Bachelors in Computer Engineering (2002) and Masters in Electrical Engineering (2005) from the National University of Singapore. I used to work in Singapore as a trading systems developer in the finance industry until I decided to settle back in India for a quieter life of studies and reflection. 

I spend most of my free time learning subjects as varied as Mathematics, Physics, to languages and Philosophy. This is something I've wanted to do since I was in high-school but never found the time for. I am so glad to find all the time I need to do this!

Experience as a tutor

I had always been a good academic performer, and was the go-to guy among my circle of friends for clarifying doubts related to academic matters during my school and university years. So you could say that I grew up tutoring from my childhood years.

I took a career break of a few years and worked as a full-time tutor for O-level and A-level Mathematics in Singapore. My main inspiration then (as it is now) was to find time for pursuing my learning activities while doing a related job that is meaningful. I later re-entered the industry for a few more years before returning to India for good. 

Regarding my effectiveness, I must say that it's a hit or miss, really. I find that I am very effective when the student really wants to improve his or her grades, develops a good rapport with me, and can communicate with me effectively. I am proud to have played a role in turning around the Mathematical fortunes of several students who were struggling. But sometimes it also happens that some students just don't "click" with me. In these cases, if they don't discontinue their sessions with me first, I usually terminate the tuition assignment with them, wish them well, and move on. 

Suffice it to say that I am not a panacea for all your Mathematical woes. In my experience, student-teacher chemistry is a huge determiner of success in tutoring. One of the luxuries of online tutoring really is that you can shop around till you find a tutor who fits the personality of the student, rather than having to subject yourself to the teacher who is presented to you in the classroom.
